At 93, Romain Zaleski still works tirelessly every day. Most often in his Milan office, sometimes at the headquarters of the Metalcam steel plant in Breno. This town in the alpine valley of Camonica is the historical “epicenter” of the industrial and financial empire he successfully created since the 1980s. Starting from nothing, he managed to reach career heights in Italy, a country that was not his own.

In 2008, he became the fourth richest French entrepreneur and enabled, among other things, the establishment of one of the first and largest private banks in Poland. He established foundations to support numerous scientific and artistic projects. He composed exceptional collections, including paintings from the italian renaissance, tapestries and Persian carpets. He initiated a number of charitable programs in Italy and Peru. Despite all this, Romain Zaleski, whom many people, especially in Italy, refer to with great respect as “The Engineer,” remains largely unknown to the general public.
From Poland, where he hails from, to Italy, which he chose as his home, to France, where he was born and was educated for a long time, my new documentary film A QUIET MAN (78') portrays the remarkable fate and surprising identity of this great European character with many facets. Premiere in autumn 2025.
